Moving to Twitter
After a while, I found out that I can't bring myself to writing long essays on this blog, but quipping 140 character notes is just my thing. Also, they are much easier to read. Maybe that's why Twitter is becoming so popular. So, if anyone is interested, please follow nsushkin on Twitter or subscribe to nsushkin-all, which is an experimental Yahoo Pipes RSS feed combining this blog with my Twitter and Flickr posts.

What's bad about this habit
Wanted to blog or twitter about a nice article by David Mermin "What's bad about this habit" in Physics Today, but all I can find online which does not require subscription to Physics Today is "abstract not available". Exactly, what's bad about this habit?!
This is almost a general public interest article. Why restrict it to the paying members of American Physical Society? Physics Today wouldn't've survived without the whole racket of scientific magazines. Newspapers are dying, the scientific publishing is probably next. There is the same dilemma, the offline material is as good as dead to the world. But the online material is almost impossible to monetize. On the other hand Physics Today is subsidized anyway, why not put it completely online?

Is freedom overrated?
MA, NY, and CA are among the bottom 10 states on the personal freedom scale, according to one study. What does that say about the concept or a specific definition of freedom. Would you rather live in a free state or in a populous and creative state? If you want to play with the definition, create your own freedom by state chart . All charts are based on this study of personal freedoms by state.
